Getting There
Two airports serve this stretch of 30A. Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) and Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) each sit roughly 35 miles from Santa Rosa Beach, with drive times generally running 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic and which end of 30A you're headed to. VPS tends to work better if you're staying on the western side near Santa Rosa Beach, while ECP is often more convenient for the Seagrove and eastern communities.

Grayton Beach State Park
Grayton Beach State Park covers roughly 2,200 acres between Santa Rosa Beach and the town of Grayton Beach, and its beach was ranked the best in the United States in 2020 by coastal scientist Stephen "Dr. Beach" Leatherman.
Western Lake, a 100-acre coastal dune lake, runs through the park and offers paddling and fishing, while four miles of trails wind through a coastal forest of wind-bent scrub oaks and magnolias. Overnight visitors can book one of the park's cabins or campsites.
Deer Lake State Park
Deer Lake State Park sits closer to Seagrove, just west of Alys Beach, and protects nearly 2,000 acres including one of the area's less-visible coastal dune lakes. A boardwalk crosses the dunes to the beach, and two short nature trails, a one-mile loop and a half-mile lake overlook, let you see the park's rare plant life, including some of the largest known populations of Curtiss' sandgrass in Florida.

Point Washington State Forest
North of both towns, Point Washington State Forest adds more than 15,000 acres of pine flatwoods and hiking and biking trails, including the Eastern Lake Trail system with loop options of roughly three, five, and ten miles. Eden Gardens State Park
A short drive north in Point Washington, Eden Gardens State Park centers on the historic Wesley House, built in 1897 by lumber baron William Henry Wesley and later restored by philanthropist Lois Maxon, who donated the property to the state.
The house and its formal gardens, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021, sit on Tucker Bayou and make for a slower, shadier stop between beach days. Biking the Timpoochee Trail
The Timpoochee Trail is a paved, roughly 19-mile path that parallels 30A for its full length, connecting Santa Rosa Beach through Seagrove and on to Inlet Beach, and it's named for Timpoochee Kinnard, a 19th-century chief of the Euchee people.
The trail is flat and wheelchair accessible, passes through the state parks and forest described above, and gives riders a close-up look at several coastal dune lakes without leaving the pavement. Bike rentals are available from multiple shops along the route.

Grayton Beach and Topsail Hill Preserve State Parks both offer direct launching points onto their coastal dune lakes, making them popular for kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding.
