Here are our favorite places to swim, paddle, eat, shop, and escape a rainy afternoon across those three destinations.

Beaches, State Parks & Natural Wonders

Destin

Henderson Beach State Park

This protected stretch of Destin coastline has white quartz sand, 30-foot dunes, nature trails, picnic areas, and some of the area's best-preserved coastal scenery. Stay through sunset if you have time.

Heads up: Day visitors now need an advance reservation to enter Henderson Beach State Park. The requirement applies to vehicles, including annual passholders, although pedestrians and cyclists don't need one.

Norriego Point

At the tip of Holiday Isle, Norriego Point faces Destin Harbor, East Pass, and Choctawhatchee Bay. Protected pockets beside the jetties offer calmer water for wading and snorkeling, and the point is a prime spot to watch fishing boats return to harbor.

Okaloosa Island & John Beasley Park

Cross the bridge west of Destin for another broad stretch of white sand. John Beasley Park has pavilions, showers, changing facilities, and accessible beach entry. The nearby fishing pier is another good stop for Gulf views and wildlife spotting.

Crab Island

Despite the name, Crab Island isn't an island. It's a submerged sandbar in Choctawhatchee Bay where boats anchor in shallow water for swimming, floating, and socializing.

You need a boat to reach it. Pontoon rentals and guided excursions are abundant around Destin Harbor. Don't attempt to swim there from shore; boat traffic and currents make the crossing dangerous.

Miramar Beach

Miramar Regional Public Beach

Miramar Regional Public Beach sits right beside Pompano Joe's on Scenic Gulf Drive. Restrooms, showers, pavilions, seasonal lifeguards, and accessible walkovers are all available. Arrive early during summer and spring break. The parking lot fills fast.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

There's much more than the beach at this 1,640-acre preserve. You can enjoy high dunes, pine forest, trails, and rare coastal dune lakes just inland from three miles of Gulf shoreline.

Santa Rosa Beach

Grayton Beach State Park

One of the great natural stops along 30A. The white sand and Gulf water are the main stars here, but leave time for Western Lake, a coastal dune lake just behind the beach. Kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, and cycling are all great options. The park frequently reaches capacity during busy periods, so earlier is better.

Eden Gardens State Park

Need some shade? Head north to Point Washington for moss-draped live oaks, ornamental gardens, Tucker Bayou views, and the historic Wesley House. Admission is $4 per vehicle.

Water Adventures & Bonfires

Destin

Dolphin & Sunset Cruises

Destin Harbor is packed with options, from double-decker sightseeing boats to catamarans and smaller cruises. Sunset departures combine dolphin spotting with one of the better views of the coast at golden hour.

East Pass Jetty Snorkeling

The rocks around East Pass attract fish, crabs, sea urchins, and occasional sea turtles. Visibility is best around slack high tide. Stay inside protected areas around the rocks and away from the main boat channel.

Miramar Beach

Dolphin Reef Snorkeling

Roughly 685 feet offshore, this artificial reef has 79 structures arranged in the shape of a dolphin. Strong swimmers, kayakers, and paddleboarders love to explore it for marine-life spotting and underwater adventures.

Parasailing & Watersports

Jet skis, paddleboards, kayaks, banana boats, and parasailing trips are widely available around Miramar Beach. Morning is often the better window for parasailing, with calmer conditions and clearer water.

Santa Rosa Beach

Private Beach Bonfires

South Walton beach bonfires are a local evening tradition, but permits are required. Licensed operators handle the permit, chairs, firewood, setup, cleanup, and usually the s'mores too.

Here are the most popular operators: Beachy Bonfires, Barefoot Bonfires 30A, Hakuna Matata Beach Service, and Fire & Tide Beach Bonfire Co.

Wooden decks, live music, friendly local crowd, great seafood dishes, and harbor views at Boshamps Seafood & Oyster House in Destin.

Dining, Fresh Seafood & Local Culinary Hotspots

Destin

• Donut Hole Bakery & Cafe: A go-to local spot for donuts, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and key lime pie. Lines are common at breakfast, so arrive hungry and patient.
  
  
• East Pass Coffee Co.: A good caffeine stop for cold brew, breakfast sandwiches, açaí bowls, and a slower morning away from the big breakfast restaurants.
  
  
• Boshamps Seafood & Oyster House: Destin Harbor views, Gulf seafood, oysters, outdoor decks, and live music are why Boshamps always appears high on the local dining list. Make sure to try their stellar seafood dishes before you leave.
  
  
• Dewey Destin's: Few restaurants connect more directly to the city's fishing roots. At the original Calhoun Avenue location, order at the window and eat at picnic tables over Choctawhatchee Bay. Fried shrimp, amberjack, smoked tuna dip, and key lime pie are classic orders for first-time visitors.
  
  
• Harbor Docks: A longtime Destin institution, open since 1979. Seafood comes through the restaurant's own wholesale market, and the menu ranges from Gulf fish and shrimp to sushi and tuna poke.
  
  
• The Back Porch: Another beachfront institution that's been around since 1974. Head here for char-grilled Gulf fish, seafood platters, cold drinks, and a table close to the sand.
  
  
• McGuire's Irish Pub: You'll know you're there when you see dollar bills covering practically every surface. This enormous and vibrant pub serves steaks, burgers, Irish dishes, house-brewed beer, and incredible live entertainment.

Miramar Beach

• Pompano Joe's: Sitting directly above Miramar Regional Beach, this is a must-try lunch stop after swimming. Refuel with seafood gumbo, coconut shrimp, and grouper, and cool down with one of their frozen drinks.
  
  
• The Surf Hut: Another toes-near-the-sand option along Scenic Gulf Drive, with Gulf views, seafood, barbecue, oysters, and an outdoor game area.
  
  
• Vin'Tij Food & Wine: For a more grown-up dinner, head to Grand Boulevard for small plates, seafood, an extensive wine selection, and a polished bistro atmosphere.
  
  

Santa Rosa Beach / 30A

• Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar: Across from Gulf Place, this two-story restaurant features Gulf views and a fantastic menu packed with oysters, diverse seafood dishes, and well-crafted cocktails. There's also live music daily. The blackened grouper sandwich won a 2026 Best of the Emerald Coast readers' award. Shunk Gulley doesn't take reservations, so arriving early is smart.
  
  
• Louis Louis: Quirky art, chandeliers, dim lighting, and live music set the scene at Louis Louis. Foodies will love the smoked tuna dip, crab cakes, Seafood Gumbo, and Shrimp & Crawfish Pasta.

AJ's Seafood & Oyster Bar is not only about great food. Evenings are extra vibrant thanks to its lineup of amazing live music performances.

Nightlife, Live Music & Evening Vibe

Destin Harbor Scene

• AJ's Seafood & Oyster Bar: AJ's shifts into party mode after dinner, with live bands, dancing, and drinks late into the night.
  
  
• Skybar at The Edge: Head upstairs to this adults-only rooftop for cocktails, DJs, and sweeping views over Destin Harbor, East Pass, and the Gulf. Arrive around sunset and stick around as the night picks up.
  
  
• HarborWalk Village: One of the main hubs for a night out in Destin, with bars, live music, concerts, seasonal fireworks, and crowds moving between venues along the waterfront.

Miramar Beach & Sandestin

• The Village of Baytowne Wharf: Baytowne Wharf is Sandestin's go-to evening destination, with bars, live music, restaurants, and events around every corner. It's a good spot for bar-hopping or catching a band after dinner.

Shopping, Outlets & Lifestyle Centers

Destin

• Destin Commons: More than 80 shops share the open-air complex with restaurants, a movie theater, playground, splash fountains, and public art. It's a good one to save for a rainy day.

Miramar Beach

• Silver Sands Premium Outlets: Bargain hunters get more than 100 outlet stores, including Coach, Nike, Kate Spade, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Under Armour.
  
  
• Grand Boulevard at Sandestin: Less outlet mall, more town center. Come for boutiques, restaurants, the cinema, theater performances, and the Saturday farmers market.

Santa Rosa Beach

• Gulf Place Town Center: Browse boutiques and local art, stop for food, or catch live music around the lawn. Shunk Gulley sits directly across the road, so the two work well together.
  
  
• The Original Shard Shop: In Grayton Beach, this hands-on studio specializes in crushed-glass mosaic classes. It's a great rainy-day option and you leave with something more personal than another beach souvenir.

Family Fun & Rainy Day Activities

Destin

• Big Kahuna's Water & Adventure Park: For hot summer days, Big Kahuna's is the go-to escape for water slides, lazy rivers, splash areas, mini golf, and much more.
  
  
• The Track Family Fun Park: Go-karts are the signature attraction here, but they also have fun mini golf, bumper boats, rides, and an arcade.
  
  
• Destin History & Fishing Museum: Get some context for that enormous charter fleet outside. Exhibits trace Destin's transformation from a small fishing settlement into the self-proclaimed "World's Luckiest Fishing Village."

Miramar Beach, Fort Walton Beach & Okaloosa Island

• Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park: Cross toward Fort Walton Beach for dolphins, sea lions, rescued manatees, penguins, stingrays, and sea turtles. The animal encounters are what kids love most when visiting the Gulfarium.
  
  
• Air Force Armament Museum: Aviation fans get historic aircraft, missiles, bombs, and military exhibits near Eglin Air Force Base. Admission and parking are free.

Santa Rosa Beach

• The Repertory Theatre: Add a little culture to your 30A itinerary at The REP, with theater, comedy, concerts, children's programming, and seasonal shows throughout the year.

Local Tips & Practical Info

• Check the beach flags daily: Green signals lower hazard, yellow means moderate conditions, red indicates high hazard, double red closes the water, and purple warns of dangerous marine life.
  
  
• Respect sea turtle nesting season: From May through October, remove beach equipment overnight, fill holes, flatten sandcastles, take trash with you, and limit bright lights near the shoreline after dark.
  
  
• Allow extra time on Highway 98: This is the main artery between Destin, Miramar Beach, and Santa Rosa Beach, and summer traffic gets heavy. Don't plan dinner reservations around optimistic GPS estimates.
  
  
• Explore all three destinations: Spend a morning around Destin Harbor, claim an afternoon on Miramar Beach, and give Santa Rosa Beach time for a dune lake, a 30A restaurant, and sunset by the Gulf. Each area offers something different, so this stretch of Northwest Florida deserves more than a single beach day.
