Why Emerald Coast Beaches Are So Beautiful!

Hello! And welcome back to the Travel Life Vacations blog!

Some of you may have stumbled across this blog post because you’re looking to plan a future vacation to Destin, FL. While others of you may be here because you are our friends, and have stayed in our private Vacation Rental homes before.

Either way, I’m glad you’re here! And I want to share with you an interesting fact about Destin that you may not have heard before.

In a very short time, Destin, Florida has grown exponentially! It is now a highly sought-after travel destination for over a few million people every year. And it’s STILL growing! Phew!

People flock here for the clear, emerald waters, and powdery soft, white sands. But, it hasn’t always been this way. And many people come and enjoy it without knowing much about it, or how it came to be.

I’m not going to go into this long, wordy, boring essay on Destin, Fl. I’m sure there is plenty of information out there already. I just wanted to pop by really quick and tell you…. Why the beaches on Florida’s Emerald Coast, are so white!

I don’t know where you live, or how many other beaches you have been to in your life…. But Destin does stand out from other beaches for its’ sugary-white, powdery-soft beach sand. I won’t name names, but not all beaches are this way! Many are brown and rocky, which equals hot and painful on your bare feet!

But why? The truth is that the sand on the beaches of the Florida Panhandle are actually made up of tiny bits of quartz crystals! Say whaaaaat?

Yes. Over the years, these crystals have been washed down from the Appalachian Mountains, and carried down to the Gulf of Mexico by multiple rivers. It then ends up in various places along the Emerald Coast as the tides bring it in. How cool is that?!

Now, I feel like I can be honest with you guys here. I have to confess that I have lived here most of my life, and I just recently learned this truth! (I never liked history class in school). But this is why I was hoping that you would find this fact to be as surprising and unique as I did. Add our QUARTZ sand to our CLEAR emerald waters, and now it makes sense why Destin & Miramar Beach, Florida are among the top fastest growing areas in the United States.

Never been? Come and see it for yourself!

Maybe we’ll see you in one of our private, vacation rental homes!
